Peter F. Gontha
Founder
Peter F. Gontha’s name is almost synonymous with Jazz in Indonesia. His Java Jazz Festival, which started in 2005, and since then has become the biggest jazz festival in the world for more than a decade now. Beside his love with Jazz, Peter is also known as a prominent business personality of so many achievements with a "Midas Touch".
After concluding his service as Indonesian Ambassador to Poland, Peter founded the Melchor Group in 2019, whose mission is to preserve the planet and prevent climate change impacts through carbon sequestration activities. Since then, Melchor Group has grown into becoming a parent company of several progressive subsidiaries that focus on environmental aspects.
During his tenure as ambassador, after being appointed by president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Peter was also assigned as Special Envoy for Indonesia’s palm oil negotiation team with the European Union. This became a pivotal point of his deepening concerns for environmental preservation and climate change issues.
A very prominent figure in business, Peter had played many roles across many industries and chaired various big and reputable companies including Shell, Citibank, American Express, Bimantara Group, and Garuda Indonesia. His other business ventures can be traced in the real estate sector like Plaza Indonesia and Bali Intercontinental Resort, aside also from PT Tri Polyta Indonesia, First Media, PT Datakom Asia, and PT Jaring Data Interaktif.
Peter also founded Chandra Asri, Indonesia’s biggest petrochemical company, that helped elevate the country from olefin import dependencies in the plastic industry. Peter started his business endeavour in the media industry and has built many legacies with involvements in founding many major national broadcasting companies such as RCTI, SCTV, Indosiar, Indovision and Trijaya FM.
